Typical drystone wall in springtime
Derbyshire, particularly in the north, is criss-crossed with drystone walls. The landscape takes on a lovely aspect, as these walls are used to mark field boundaries, act as stock pens and much more. They do, slowly, deteriorate with time, and need some repair, but they are less hard work than a hedgerow, and you can use them where growing conditions are less than optimal.
